Blu embroidery bag/Borsa blu con ricami

Il blu è un colore chic e versatile che declinato in svariate tonalità, durante questa stagione dell'anno, soppianta senza dubbio, il nero delle mise più eleganti e sobrie, indossate durante l'inverno.

In piena saturazione, il blu è il colore freddo per eccellenza,  nella sua massima brillantezza acquista invece un'idea di forza e di dominio. Secondo la cromoterapia, il blu ha la facoltà di rilassare portando equilibrio alla sfera emotiva.

La creazione che vi propongo, è stata realizzata con un tessuto molto morbido e piacevole al tatto, di un elegante blu oltremare, che ho impreziosito con dei ricami e delle applicazioni di perline di vetro di un caldo giallo dorato tinta, che ho poi volutamente ripreso anche nella  fodera interna.

Ritengo che questo contrasto, di un tono freddo e uno caldo, abbia definito il carattere di questo accessorio, decisamente ricercato e gradevole.

Sebbene, per foggia sia alquanto capiente, questa borsa a tracolla ha dimensioni contenute. 

Il suo interno è stato rifinito con l'aggiunta di una piccola, ma utilissima taschina.

Credo, che questa originale borsa, possa essere abbinata ad un abbigliamento elegante, ma ritengo anche possibile un suo disinvolto utilizzo con capi  sportivi ed informali.

Blu is a fashionable and versatile colour with several shades, certainly able to supersede during this season the more glamour black clothing weared during the winter.
When at its full saturation, blue is the cold colour for the excellence. At its clearest brightness, it conveys a sensation of strength and power. As per chromotherapy principles, blue has the property to relax, giving the right balance to the emotions.
The creation I 'm presenting has been realized using a ultramarine blue fabric, very soft and very pleasant to touch. It has been enriched with embroideries and glass beads of a warm shade of golden yellow, a colour intentionally repeated on the inside lining.
I believe that this contrasting effect between a cold and warm colour, defined the nature of this creation, certainly very refined and nice.
Although it's quite capacious, this shoulder bag hasn't wide dimensions.
Inside, a small but very useful little pocket has been added.
I deem that this original bag could be combined with elegant garments, but I also believe it can be freely used with sportswear and informal clothing.

Linen and cotton hearts for Valentine's day!/Cuori in lino e cotone per San Valentino!

Per la festa di San Valentino, ormai prossima, ho realizzato una serie di cuori utilizzando un vecchio campionario di lenzuola in lino e cotone, di una prestigiosa manifattura italiana.

Dei singoli tagli ho sfruttato, in particolare, l'angolo in modo da dare risalto, il più possibile, alla differenti tipologie decorative proposte.

L'abbinamento con ritagli di vecchi pizzi, scelti con molta cura ed applicati a mano, ha poi dato un tocco d'antan a queste romantiche creazioni che ora sono felice di potervi mostrare, attraverso le immagini ...

Felice San Valentino a tutti!

For the coming Valentine's Day, I made a hearts series using an old sample collection of linen and cotton fabrics by a prestigious Italian manufacture.
Particularly, I used the angle of each single cut in order to emphasize as much as possible the different types of decorative proposals.
Combining with scraps of hand applied old lace very carefully, I gave a d'antan touch to these romantic creations that now I am happy to show you through some  images ...

Natural dyeing...my first experiment!/Tintura naturale... primo esperimento!

 

Per chi come me, ama la natura ed è sempre alla ricerca di nuove esperienze creative, questo è stato un affascinante esperimento la cui tecnica, ho in progetto di approfondire sicuramente a breve. 

Casualmente, ho incontrato, dopo diversi anni, una carissima amica che non vedevo da tempo e che vanta un bagaglio di esperienze lavorative assai qualificate e specifiche.



Infatti, oltre ad essere una costumista teatrale, nel corso della sua carriera professionale, Giovanna ha approfondito le sue conoscenze, concentrando la sua attenzione sul Medioevo.

Oggi, Giovanna è la responsabile dell'abbigliamento, nonchè maestra tintora, della Compagnia di Chiaravalle associazione che si occupa, in modo molto rigoroso, di rievocazioni storiche.

Si sa, nella vita le cose non capitano mai per caso e le rispettive competenze, ci hanno fatto volare con la fantasia e pensare ad una possibile collaborazione futura ... stiamo a vedere che succederà!

Per ora, ci siamo limitate, un po' per gioco, a realizzare insieme, un primo esperimento che ci ha comunque entusiasmate. Complici, tre gomitoli di lana bouclè, che sono stati tinti con la Reseda luteola.

Il giallo brillante ed intenso, ottenuto sul filato, mi ha letteralmente conquistata ed immediato è nato il desiderio di dargli  una forma e un concreto utilizzo.
E' nata così una sciarpa calda e morbidissima, che ho ricamato impreziosendo i due estremi, con delle pailletes in tinta. Che ne pensate???

For all the nature-lovers like me, ever looking for new creative experiences, this was a really charming experiment and I surely intend to develop its technique in depth shortly.
I met by chance a dear friend of mine I didn't see for a long time. She's very experienced in her job and she can rely on a specific and skilled know-how.
Giovanna is not only a costume designer, but during her professional career she widened her technical knowledge focusing the attention on the Middle Age.
Currently Giovanna is the person in charge for costumes and she's the master dyer in the Italian group named "Compagnia di Chiaravalle". This association is involved in the strict realizing of historical reconstructions.
You know, nothing happenes by chance and our own knowledge make us fly with the fantasy imaging a future creative cooperation... we'll see what will be!
At the moment, just for fun, we restricted ourselves to realize together an earl experiment which was anyway an exciting experience. Our ally were three balls of bouclè wool, colored using a plant named Reseda luteola.
The bright and deep yellow obtained yarn, literally won me and immediatly arose the desire to give it a shape and a real use.
So was born a warm and very soft scarf, made precious embroidering its ends with colour matched sesquins.

La sostanza colorante della Reseda si chiama luteolina e si estrae dalla pianta intera (radici escluse).
Etimologia: il nome del genere reseda = calma, che lenisce il dolore, deriva dal latino, come anche quella dell' intera famiglia, le cui piante contengono sostanze calmanti.
Il nome specifico luteola deriva dal latino luteus = giallo per le sue qualità coloranti.

L'utilizzo della Reseda, come pianta tintorea, risale all'epoca dei romani e lo stesso Plinio ne descrisse doviziosamente le proprietà. 

Il suo impiego si diffuse rapidamente anche presso tutte le culture Europee e dell’Asia Centrale.

In Inghilterra fu per secoli utilizzata nelle colorazioni degli abiti del popolo mentre, in Francia, per la tintura delle stoffe preziose destinate alla realizzazione dei vestiti dei nobili di Versailles. 

Largamente impiegata anche dai tintori dei Dogi Veneziani, fu tra le piante considerate d'elezione, per la tintura dei paramenti dei sacerdoti nella liturgia cattolica; mentre in Scozia  per la tintura del Tweed.

Reseda contains a dyeing substance known as luteolin, extracted from the entire plant (excluding the roots).
Etymology: the genus Reseda and the family of this plants, are named after the Latin word "reseda" (imperative of verb "resedare", by the Latin phrase "reseda morbos" = soothe the pains"). Every plant included in this family contains soothing substances.The species name "luteola" comes from the Latin luteus = yellow, due to its dyeing effect.
The use of Reseda as a dyeing herb, dates from the Roman times and a detailed description of its properties can be found in Plinius.
Its use spread soon also through Europe and Central Asia.
In England, the common people used this herb for centuries to dye the clothes, while in France it was used to color the precious fabrics intended for the creation of dresses for the nobles in Versailles.
It was widely used by the Italian master dyers of the Venetian Doges and it was among the plants of choice to dye the catholic liturgic paraments. In Scotland it was used to dye the Tweed fabric.

Gingerbread Men cookies

Il pan di zenzero è un impasto base di spezie quali zenzero, cannella, chiodi di garofano, noce moscata, tipico dell'Inghilterra, America e Paesi del Nord Europa, che viene utilizzato per preparare dei biscotti, in special modo, durante le festività natalizie. 

I biscotti a forma di omini, casette o altri soggetti, decorati con glasse colorate, vengono tradizionalmente appesi all'albero di Natale.

The gingerbread is a spices mix such as ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, typical of England, America and Northern European countries, used to prepare cookies especially during the Xmas holiday.

The cookies are shaped as little men, or houses or other, decorated with coloured icing and traditionally hung on the Christmas tree.

Farina "00" 350 gr.
Zucchero 160 gr.
Burro 150 gr.
Uovo 1
Sale un pizzico
Miele o melassa 150 gr.
Cannella in polvere 2 cucchiaini
Noce moscata in polvere un quarto di cucchiaino
Zenzero in polvere 2 cucchiaini
Chiodi di garofano in polvere mezzo cucchiaino
Bicarbonato mezzo cucchiaino.

"00" flour 350 gr. (12½ oz)

Sugar 160 gr. (5½ oz) 
Butter 150 gr. (5¼ oz)

1 Egg

Salt a pinch

Honey or molasses 150gr. (5¼ oz)

Ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons

Nutmeg powder a quarter of teaspoons

Ginger powder 2 teaspoons

Clove powder half teaspoon

Half teaspoon baking soda

In una ciotola capiente con un miscelatore elettrico sbattere il burro con lo zucchero per qualche minuto sino a quando non diventa soffice.

Whip the butter added with sugar in a large bowl using an electric mixer until will be obtained a fluffy pastry.

Aggiungete la farina, le spezie, il bicarbonato, il pizzico di sale ed infine, il miele o la melassa ed azionate il mixer a media velocità fino ad ottenere un composto molto friabile.

A questo punto è possibile amalgamare il tutto con l'uovo fino ad ottenere un impasto molto morbido.

Add the flour, the spices, the baking soda, the pinch of salt and finally the honey or the molasses. Use the mixer at a medium speed to obtain a crumbly dough.
Mix with the egg till a soft mixture will be obtained.

E' necessario avvolgere il pan di zenzero con della carta pellicola e lasciarlo riposare 2-3 ore nel frigorifero.

The gingerbread needs to be wrapped with clingfilm and put for two or three hours in the refrigerator.

Preriscaldare il forno a 180°C. e stendete l'impasto con il matarello fino ad ottenere una sfoglia di 4 mm. ca.

Pre-heat the oven at 180° C. (356°F) and roll out dough with the rolling pin to obtain a sheet of pastry nearly 4 mm thick (approx 2/12 inc).

Ricavate delle forme con dei tagliapasta a soggetto natalizio e poneteli su una teglia coperta con carta da forno facendoli cuocere fino a quando diventano dorati.

Cut the cookies using Xmas-themes shaped cutters and put on a baking tin pre-covered with parchment paper and cook until the cookies become light brown.

Nel frattempo, preparare le glasse colorate montando a neve l'albume d'uovo con lo zucchero al velo e aggiungere i coloranti alimentari. Queste glasse serviranno per le decorazioni che verranno realizzate utilizzando una tasca da pasticceria con la bocchetta molto stretta e liscia.

In the meanwhile, prepare the coloured icings beating eggs white till stiff and adding icing sugar and food grade colours.
These icings will be serve to make decorations using a pastry bag with a narrow and smooth tip.

Gatti ... amici di molti di noi; giocherelloni, biricchini e sornioni!

Non potevano certo mancare  tra gli animali realizzati da Tonne Finnanger dalla quale molte di noi trovano spesso ispirazione per i propri handmade.

Sicuramente, non posso negare di essere stata catturata dal suo stile che ho comunque, a mio modo, personalizzato e ripreso in alcuni dei miei sewing craft.

E' proprio il caso di Gedeone gatto ciccione che ho cucito in due versioni diverse per il manto, che è stato, nell'ultima parte, dipinto direttamente sul pupazzo terminato.

C'è da chiedersi: chi non vorrebbe avere a casa un gatto così?

Cats are friend of all of us: they are sympathetic, playfull, mischievious and sly.

They surely cannot be missed among the animals made by Tonne Finnanger, often ispiring many of us with her creations.

Sure I can't deny to be impressed, by her style, that I anyway personalized and followed in some of my sewing craft.

This is the case of Gedeon the fat cat that i sewed with to different version, both with a cloak painted directly on the puppet in the final step.

And now my question is: who wouldn't like to have this cat at home?

A decoupage flowers and fruit's triumph/Trionfo di fiori e frutta a decoupage

La tecnica del decoupage risale al XII-XIII secolo.

Allora si usava decorare le candele votive o i bordi dei manoscritti, per ottenere degli effetti miniatura.

Decoupage's tecnique date from XII-XIII Century. At that time it was used to decorate the votile candel or the edges of manuscripts, to obtain the effect of a miniat.

Il termine decoupage deriva dal verbo francese decouper (tagliare).

The term decoupage derives from the French verb decouper and it means to cut.

Tale tecnica ebbe grande diffusione a Venezia, durane il XVII secolo, epoca nella quale era di moda imitare le lacche orientali di difficile importazione, poichè molto costose. Abili artigiani veneziani si specializzarono così, nell'imitare gli oggetti delle lacche cinesi e giapponesi, ritagliando stampe orientali originali ed incollandole sui mobili di loro produzione, che venivano poi rifiniti e protetti con delle finiture simili alle stesse lacche.

This technique had a great diffusion in Venice during the XVII Century, when it was a fashion to imitate the oriental varnish, a ware of a difficult importation because it was too expensive.

Venetian artisans specialised in imitating the ornament of the original oriental varnish gluing cuts of Chinese and Japanese printed fabrics on their handmade furniture, finished and protected to make them similar to the original varnishes.

Il decoupage, attualmente, grazie alla versatilità degli oggetti utilizzabili come supporto decorativo e, alla grande qualità dei materiali offerti dal mercato, è considerato un piacevole passatempo da molte persone, che si dedicano alla realizzazione di complementi per la decorazione d'interni.

Nowadays decoupage thanks to the lot of objects used as decorative base and with a lot of materials that offered by the market, is considered by many people as a nice pastime to make accessories for the internal decoration.

Alla tecnica base del ritaglio d'immagini dalla carta, in alternativa, oggi è proposta anche quella del tovagliolo, con la quale ho realizzato il centrotavola di questo post.

As alternative to the elementary tecnique of paper images cutting, today is proposed the one of the paper napkin I used to make the centerpiece of this post.

Ho decorato un grande piatto di legno dal diameto di 45 cm, creando una rete di fiori e frutti che ho pazientemente composto tra loro, ricopredo l'intera superficie.

I decorated a big wooden plate of 45 cm diameter, creating a net of flowers and fruits that I have patiently formed covering the entire surface.

Molti sono stati i passaggi per realizzare la finitura, utilizzando una lacca satinata opaca. tra una mano e l'altra ho carteggiato la superficie del piatto, con carte dalla grana sempre più sottile.

There was a lot of steps to make the finishing touches using a dull and glazed varnish. I sandpapered the plate's surface with sandpapers of thinest and thinest grain.

Infine, per conferire all'oggetto un effetto patinato, ho steso con un panno morbido, della cera naturale.

At the end, to obtain a glossy effect, I spread some natural wax using a soft cloth.

Le prime giornate di pioggia sono arrivate!

Così per allontanare la malinconia, ho ripreso a dedicarmi a creare piccole decorazioni per poter rendere ancora più accogliente la mia casa.

E’ bastato poco: un po’ di polvere di gesso alabastrino, degli stampi in silicone, una piccola cornice in  lacca bianca, della colla a caldo e un pezzetto di lino tinta naturale.

Il soggetto utilizzato è stato quello della birdhouse e per decorare gli angoli della cornice ho invece realizzato, sempre in gesso, dei bottoni.

Ecco il risultato!

The first rainy days have come!

To feel less blue, I dedicate once again to create little decorations to make more comfortable my house.

It didn’t take much: a little bit of alabastrine plaster, silicone moulds, a little white lacquered frame, some hot glue and a piece of  natural colour linen.

The subject is a birdhouse. To decorate the frame corners, I used four plaster made buttons.

Here  is the  result!
